In rare but unfortunate accidents, an entire tooth, including the root, can be knocked out. If you find the tooth and it is intact, handle it carefully to increase the chances of saving it. This applies only to adult (permanent) teeth, as baby teeth cannot be reinserted.
Here is what you should do:
• Do not touch the root of the tooth
• Do not attempt to clean off dirt or sand, let the dentist handle that
• Keep the tooth moist, preferably in a cold glass of milk or under your tongue
• Visit a dentist as soon as possible
